As a professional makeup artist and a wannabe frequent flier, I’m often asked what are my “go to” beauty products for travel. I’ve written a number of guest posts on this topic as well as a more in depth story last summer on organizing your wardrobe to fit into one carry-on.
In this news segment for CW33, I put together a variety of products (including a few unisex items) that I like to keep in my carry-on bag. I carry most of these things with me whether I’m on a three hour flight to Los Angeles, or a twelve hour flight to Italy.

This is a great video and I always enjoy learning about good products to take on trips. I’m going to look for some of these for my upcoming visit to France. Excellent post – thanks Penny!
So glad that you thought of me for some packing tips! 🙂
Thank you for your support!
I love this, and I’m so passionate about going carryon only -it frees you up in so many ways! I’m searching for the perfect travel mascara – no clumps, no smudges, no looking like Twiggy. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi Vanessa, I’ve tried most all of them. If you want to go budget, try Lash blast by Covergirl or L’Oreal Voluminous. My favorite high end mascara is Dior Show – blackout. Hope this helps Thanks for commenting.
Penny: totally agree with you wrt Dior Show-Blackout. I’m Asian and have always wished for long, full, lush lashes and this mascara is nothing short of a miracle! I’ve tried TOO many to list. Although Dior may be a wee bit pricier, I try to load up at duty free shops when passing through airports to save a little moola. For hotter climates, I get lash extensions so I can get away with no eye makeup. Just some bronzer and lip gloss and GO!!!
Kat – l love the look of lash extensions. Alas, the maintenance is a bit more than I can handle, but many of my customers wear them.
