Do you like Italian wines from Piedmont? Some of Do you like Italian wines from Piedmont?

Some of you have said you like Barolo, well, I picked out some kick ass Barolo for a special event last weekend. Not to mention the Barbaresco which is also made from Nebbiolo grapes but is aged differently. These are a few of the top producers in Italy and the vintages were good!
I also picked out a dolcetto for something lighter and fruitier to start with.

Barolo and Barbaresco are often referred to as the king and queen of wines of Piedmont.

These wines could be stored for another 5-15 years, easily, but I decanted them and and they were beautiful after about 2 hours.

If you’re interested in visiting Piedmont I have a few articles on my blog to get you started. If you’d like help with picking out wines or want to do a tasting, send me a message.

If you need help planning a trip, send me a message.

All the food is from @eatalydallas .

“For at the end of the day, what matters is neve “For at the end of the day, what matters is never the wine, it’s always the moment; it’s always the people.” – Olivier Magny

To begin my official birthday week I revisited this wine from @garyfarrellwinery in Sonoma County. I drank it by myself in my apartment while having a zoom chat with a friend in Virginia. A good wine should always be shared with a friend. I do think some of the best wines that I’ve ever tasted were more about how I felt in the moment that I tasted them. Have you ever gone back and tried one that you thought you loved and it just wasn’t what you remembered?

Well this wine was as good as I remembered and even better. This is from Russian River Valley the Toboni Vineyards.

2016 was an exceptional year for Russian River Valley wines. The flavors are concentrated the wine has wonderful acidity. The tasting notes are dark cherry, plum, and blackberry jam. Rose petals and violets are layered with elements of vanilla bean and cedar. I definitely got the dark cherry the blueberry jam and the rose petals. The longer it lingers on the glass I can smell the cedar.
this is a beautiful wine and I’m so happy I was able to have it to celebrate yet another year planet earth. Thanks to @theresaheredia for your creation and @sam_folsom415 for turning me onto this excellent winemaker.

Bishop arts District in Oak Cliff, which is part o Bishop arts District in Oak Cliff, which is part of the city of Dallas, is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city.

Originally Oak Cliff was not connected to Dallas. It was separated by the Trinity River. But after a massive flood and I believe 1908 the Houston Street viaduct was completed and connected these two parts of the city. And Oak Cliff was annexed to the city of Dallas.

But Bishop arts remained a major stop for trolley cars Until roughly the 1960s. I might have my timeline off there by a few years. Anyway this little artsy neighborhood has blossomed into one of the hippest and most popular neighborhoods in Dallas. Full of cute shops with wonderful finds, a bookstore, and restaurants. Would you like to eat Texas barbecue, donuts from Miami, or just sit down to a nice glass of wine with a bit of French ambience? All of that and more you can find in the bishop arts District. Check it out in my latest article for TravelAwaits.

link will be in my bio until my next post.

It seems like a million years ago I was in Italy. It seems like a million years ago I was in Italy. I certainly hope 2021 will be the year of my return.

This is the piazza in Bassano del Grappa. A very pretty and wealthy town in the north eastern part of Italy about an hour train ride from Venice. It’s a town that not many people visit but it’s definitely worth a stop. It’s also known for a famous and very strong Italian liquor, Grappa.

I have a lot more photos of Bassano del Grappa from a story on my blog , and I put the link in my profile. It’s also a tribute to amore. ❤️

Last year when the pandamic first began, I was pre Last year when the pandamic first began, I was pretty optimistic and saw it as a time to reinvent myself. Every line of work or creative endeavor that I applied myself to was affected by the pandemic. I have not hosted a winetasting demo live since January last year.

Most of all travel as we all know has been impacted. Not being able to get on a plane and freely go where I would like to go has challenged me to stay positive.

But it’s also caused me to take a deep look at myself and what I know, how I think , how my mind works, and to dig into that. Because I know at the end of the day the only real change can happen there. When I change, then I have the power to change things around me.

But the truth is, I would forsake all to wander the world freely again.

I’ve gone back to some things that have been of interest to me throughout my life since I was a teenager. Astrology for example. I studied astrology since I was about 14 and I’ve been deeply involved in it at different times. But it’s interesting how when times are really tough you look for answers and I have found some peace in pursuing astrology for my own self knowledge. To be clear, I study Hindu astrology not the western what’s your sign type of astrology. Anyway, that’s just one way that I have reconnected with myself.

Another way is through taking road trips around my home state, Texas. I don’t really like driving if I’m honest. And I don’t like driving more than three hours at a time which doesn’t take you far in Texas. But, I’ve done it and the reward at the end has been worth it. It is possible to find adventure closer to home.

I’m also reading a lot of philosophy; I’m just reading more in general, which is a real pleasure. I’ve read since I was about six or eight years old. I don’t come from a family of brainy people but we were all big book lovers. I don’t really know how that happened but I’m very grateful. Books have been a huge part of my life and I’m happy to say they are, once again.

So tell me, how has the pandemic affected you?
Are you doing anything new?
Do you love donuts? These donuts look like a meal Do you love donuts? These donuts look like a meal to me. Want to know where to find them? Well I have an article coming up all about the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff. But, I’ll go ahead and tell you now.

Straight from Miami to Dallas, The Salty Donut.

be sure to swipe for pictures of their outdoor patio where you can find a lot of safe seating and a pick up window. It’s a great spot to hang out with a coffee, a doughnut and a friend or a laptop, or a book.

there’s a lot more going on in Oak Cliff which I will be telling you about soon.

Learning to travel local! What about you?

We travel initially to lose ourselves; and we trav We travel initially to lose ourselves; and we travel next find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than what the newspapers will accommodate.

We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the world whose riches are differently dispersed.

and we travel, in essence, to become young fools again; to slow time down and get taken in; to fall in love once more.
