At the local pub, the Pint and Barrel Drafthouse in Palestine, Texas, happy hour was well underway. We decided to stick around and relax for a while before making the drive back to Dallas.
Serving a large selection of craft brews and some basic Bud on tap, the Pint and Barrel also offers a decent selection of wine, and better than average pub food. We chose a table on the patio where we could people watch and enjoy sitting outdoors, surrounded by a wide-open field and some funky art. In Dallas, most outdoor restaurant seating is on the sidewalk of a busy street. How about a little exhaust with your dinner?
Attention To Details At Pint And Barrel
The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, and the music added exponentially to this vibe. I complimented the owner, who confessed that he was in charge of the music, thank you very much. To me, music can make or break an entire experience. With bands like the Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys playing, I felt I could have been in a much bigger city anywhere in the world, but there was one noticeable difference: everyone seemed to know each other, or at least know someone who knows someone. But it was friendly. I didn’t feel like an outsider in a small town.
Pint And Barrel Drafthouse Is More Than Beer
I’m not really a beer drinker, so I ordered a glass of Bogle Pinot Noir to go with my chicken finger basket. I really liked the curled potato fries, crispy and not too salty. Chicken fingers may not sound very sophisticated, and they aren’t even something I’d normally order, but there at that moment, they were perfect. In east Texas, or almost anywhere in Texas, chicken fingers are what everyone now calls local cuisine.
If you’re a beer drinker, I can only imagine the Pint and Barrel will pour something you will love. The owners are young, innovative, and work hard to make the Pint and Barrel Drafthouse the place to be in East Texas. They’ve only been open six months…it looks like they are there to stay.
