Postcard: Vineyard in Tuscany

by Penny Sadler

I think Italy is blessed with more beautiful countryside than most places, but you’ll need to get outside of the big tourist cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice to see it. I’ve been lucky to visit several small towns and vineyards that are not on your normal tourist routes.

Vineyard in Panzano in Chianti, Tuscany @PennySadler 2014

I took this photograph one afternoon while visiting Panzano in Chianti, a very small town in the popular region of Tuscany. Located in the hills, the landscape is punctuated by cypress trees and vineyards. In the spring, poppies and irises bloom on hillsides.

Panzano is located midway between Florence and Sienna, and there are many small wineries where you can stop for tastings scattered along the narrow, winding roads. To get there you’ll need a car, or you can take the bus from Florence, about an hours ride.

Take an armchair tour of Panzano in my article, Panzano in Pictures.

Do you have a favorite small town or village in Italy?

Love Tuscany too, but I never got the chance to take a photo like this. Despite the storm clouds, it looks beautiful. Hope to go back someday.

Hi Aleah, It was a nice change from going to Rome, though I still love Rome. I thought the clouds added a lot of interest. I like stormy skies. 🙂

I was quite taken by Liguria’s Levanto, Penny. To the extent, that it was the place I wanted to honeymoon in. We ended up in Galicia instead. I’ll get back there one day.

Great photo! I find that storm clouds create the most interesting light.

Hey Penny, Great post! i love that moody picture of the Tuscany vineyard. As it looks like stormy weather later that day.
