Postcard from Montreal: Street Art

by Jessie Voigts

One of the things I love most about a place is its art. Whether it is in a museum or on the street, art can tell you a lot about where you are. Montreal is well-known for its street art, boasting gorgeous, building-size murals painted by both famous and lesser-known street artists.

There is also plenty of public art and temporary outdoor art installations – so wander at will. You will not only find great art, but friendly people, incredible food, and So Much shopping.

When we were driving around Montreal, I kept snapping photos of graffiti on buildings. If only I had had this google map, we could have seen even MORE great street art!

Tip: If you can, get out and walk. Many urban murals are located off main streets, along alleys and on smaller streets.

I never knew Montreal was a haven for street art. I love the vibrant colors and somehow these look more professional than a lot of others I have seen.

These are all great arts! I love street arts too and tend to look for them no matter where I go. I haven’t been to Montreal yet but all the street arts that you have captured there looks so vibrant and very creative. I like the one with the skull.

Montreal is such a great long weekend choice for those like me coming from Toronto. It’s about a 6 hour drive and boom your in another world class city. I love street art and this is a great idea/add on for things to do the next time I am there

The last time we went to Montreal, there was completely different street art than the ones I see here! I think it’s awesome when a city is constantly evolving with its art. Toronto is fantastic for street art, too.

I love a city that embraces outdoor art. Some of those murals look fabulous in that scale, we would definitely spend some time walking around there.

I love Montreal. We live near this lovely European-like city, have Canadian relatives, and been there many times but I’ve not attended to the street art. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
