Wine and Wellness at The Mount View Hotel and Spa, Calistoga

Wine and Wellness at The Mount View Hotel and Spa, Calistoga

Calistoga, California’s reputation as a spa town (and in particular the creative way that mud is incorporated into the local spa treatments) is well known. But let’s not forget, Calistoga is located in America’s most well known wine area, Napa Valley. Wine and grapes are just part of life, and that includes wellness and healing therapies. Remember I told you in Postcard from Mud City that I would reveal the Calistoga spa with the most creative use of grape seeds? Well, I’m finally getting to that! Without a doubt, the best use of grape seeds is the signature Grape Seed Mud Wrap at the Mount View Hotel and Spa. Crushed grape seeds from Napa Valley wineries are mixed with mud. After a light exfoliation, the warm mud and grape seed-rosehip concoction is applied and you are wrapped in warm blankets, while the parts that are exposed (the hands, feet, and head) are given a light massage. 5 Multi-Use Beauty Products for Travel

5 Multi-Use Beauty Products for Travel

When it comes to what to pack in my skincare and cosmetics kit for travel, as always, I try to keep it to a minimum. I lighten the load by choosing multi-use beauty products. I know a lot of people love to travel because it’s a break from the routine of day-to-day life; no more grocery shopping, no work, housekeeping, or washing the car. As a professional makeup artist and a passionate traveler, I have a different perspective. Whether we like it or not, if we look attractive, we are seen as friendlier, smarter, and more approachable. A big part of my travel experience is meeting new people. With that said, if I’m meeting new people every single day, I make an effort to look my best. That doesn’t mean I spend an hour on hair and...

What Goes in My Carry-on

What Goes in My Carry-on

As a professional makeup artist and a wannabe frequent flier, I’m often asked what are my “go to” beauty products for travel.  I’ve written a number of guest posts on this topic as well as a more in depth story last summer on organizing your wardrobe to fit into one carry-on. In this news segment for CW33, I put together a variety of products (including a few unisex items) that I like to keep in my carry-on bag. I carry most of these things with me whether I’m on a three hour flight to Los Angeles, or a twelve hour flight to Italy. If you’re interested in why I think looking great while traveling is important read, Can Your Clothes Make the...

Adventures of a Carry-on Gets a Makeover

I thought I should let you all know that I’ve decided it’s time for a makeover. I’m a professional makeup artist after all, and it was only a matter of time. It’s what I do. I’ll be moving to self hosting and adding all kinds of cool graphics, plug-ins and more. I intend to make it not only visually more appealing, but easier to navigate, share and enjoy. In the meantime, along with my real job, getting people camera ready, I’ll continue to post and maintain the blog here. Thanks for being part of my community. Many thanks to my model Rhonda for being my “before” and “after”...
