Memorable Moments in Italy 2015: Puglia to the Dolomites

Memorable Moments in Italy 2015: Puglia to the Dolomites

Happy New Year, and thanks for being here. I’ve actually paid attention to the content and articles that my readers (you) seem to enjoy the most… no surprise, anything to do with Italy seems to be a big hit. And why not? How do I love Italy? Let me count the ways. Actually, there are too many to count. I’ve got lots more great Italy content coming in 2016. I’ve also discovered that there are a lot of other people out there who write and blog about Italy. Some I’ve met online, and some I’ve met in person. Either way, we all have a love of Italy in common. To start off the new year, I thought it would be fun to do this collaborative post of memorable moments in Italy. From the vineyards of Tuscany, to the mountains of the Dolomites, if you too dream of Italy, I hope you’ll find some inspiration here. Join us in remembering Italy 2015. Memorable Moments in Italy 2015 Piedmont: Neive and Turin...

Where Would You Go? Creating A Bucket List

Where Would You Go? Creating A Bucket List

Have you ever wanted to take a round the world trip? What are your travel dreams and aspirations? Where do you most want to go? Is there a historical site, monument, city, a place that you’ve always dreamed of? Or maybe it’s about doing something active like hiking the Great Wall of China, seeing the northern lights in Iceland, or observing wildlife in the Galapagos Islands. If you could go anywhere at all, where would you go? Have you created a bucket list? Lately it’s become pretty clear to me that travel is going to be a big focal point for the rest of my life. I don’t travel as much as I’d like to, yet, nor have I even begun to scratch the surface of all the places I’d like to see. But most anything is possible if you want it bad enough. It just takes some planning, time, and yes, a bit of cash. I believe an important step to reaching your goals and making dreams come...

Vote! For Bernini, Italy, and Me

Vote! For Bernini, Italy, and Me

I’m going to get straight to the point, we need your help, Bernini and me. Let me explain… I’m very pleased to announce that once again an article that I have written about Italy has made the shortlist in the Italy Magazine Blogger Awards 2014. Italy is an ongoing source of inspiration for me, and the inspiration behind this blog, therefore  being nominated  and recognized on a website  that’s all about Italy, a website that I admire and read, makes me feel like a winner already. I’m especially pleased because I really enjoyed writing the nominated article as it’s about one of my favorite Italian artists, Bernini.  I think a vote for Adventures of a Carry-on is like a vote for Bernini. Assuming you love Bernini too, it’s a win all around. So you see, Bernini and me, we need you.   So please, it will take less than 60 seconds to click on the arrow in the photo above and find Adventures of a Carry-on on the...

Do You Believe in Ghosts? Investigating Paranormal Activity on The Queen Mary

Do You Believe in Ghosts? Investigating Paranormal Activity on The Queen Mary

The Queen Mary. Once the fastest, most glamorous, and certainly the most popular ship on the sea has become even more beloved and well known since moving to Long Beach, California. Historians, Anglophiles, art deco addicts and cruise aficioanados, come from all over the world to visit the Queen. And rightfully so, she is a relic of a bygone era, when Transatlantic travel was the only way to cross the pond. And just to prove how interesting she is, on April 15, 1993, the historic liner was placed in the National Register of Historic Places with Historic Significance. To learn more about the Queen Mary there are a number of educational and unusual tours. One tells the tale of the Queen during WWII, when she transported troops and outran German submarines. For fans of the royal family there’s the Princess Diana Tour. And for those seeking something offbeat. Paranormal Investigations Tour. The Queen Mary is said to be haunted. I first visited the Queen Mary in 1990 while in Long...

Italy Magazine Blogger Awards 2013

Italy Magazine Blogger Awards 2013

I have something exciting to share with you. It’s pretty obvious even to the casual reader of this site that I love Italy. I’d say easily over half of my content is about Italy. It remains my favorite place I’ve visited so far. Last year an online magazine that’s all about Italy titled, appropriately, Italy Magazine, ran a competition for the top bloggers on Italy. Here’s the exciting part: Adventures of a Carry-on was nominated in four categories! Best Overall Blog, Best Single Recipe, Best Single Travel Post (same as the following), and Best Living in Italy Single Post. There was a lot of great competition, and I was surprised and pleased to be among them. A week ago the competition was shortlisted and the finalists in each category were picked. My article, How To Make An Italian Neighborhood Your Own, made it as a finalist for Best Single Living in Italy post along with only three other articles! Whew! The heat is on! If you enjoy this blog...
