Postcard: South Beach

South Beach, Miami, Florida, @PennySadler 2013

My second trip to South Beach, Miami, Florida, and I finally made it for a photo walk on the beach. I never would have guessed that the Atlantic Ocean could be so colorful and the beaches so pretty. Not only can you walk for miles, but they’re nice and wide, and best of all there are plenty of chairs and umbrellas for rent. If you’re staying at one of the hotels in the area, most provide you a towel and beach chair, but you’ll still need to rent an umbrella if you want one. If you’re pasty white, like me, it’s a good idea.

For all around convenience, comfort, and great scenery, South Beach gets my vote – again.
I liked the colorful life guard stations, the blue colors of the water and sky and the white sand and clouds – it’s a real visual treat.

South Beach may have a reputation for wild night life, but daytime at the beach is for everyone.

  1. I don’t like the beach 🙁

Though I do like your picture! I know Franca would love to see a beach like this on her travels, I’ll see if she’d like to join you.

  2. we were in Miami last year, great place to visit. You’ve got it all the crazies, the people flaunting their money, Russians, Latinos, beach junkies.

And of course the great beaches and hotels.

  3. Based on its reputation, I would have never thought about going to South Beach for a relaxing walk. Thanks for opening my eyes!

    • It’s a wonderful wide beach and the city grooms it every morning. Nice umbrellas for rent too. I have a great photo I’ll probably post it next week. 🙂

  4. Aw, now I want to visit! I haven’t been to SB in a few years, but I love going for relaxing spa weekends and runs along the beach!

  5. South Beach’s wild side gets all the attention. It’s nice to hear about what drew people to it in the first place – its beauty.

    • Yes it is a pity that will be forever known as “the party beach.” Go during the week and early in the day and it’s quite normal; for South Beach that is!

  6. This is pretty much the exact opposite of what I would expect to see on South Beach!!! Where are the people, the crowds, the sunshine???

    • I guess sleeping it off? Or at work? 10:00 am on a Monday morning. 🙂

  7. It’s nice to hear that the beach still has a calm, relaxed vibe during the day despite being party central at night! Looks very pretty.

    • Definitely a place for all kinds of people, the way beaches should be in my humble opinion.
